RAFT

Screenshot.png

Raft is an arcade game about two friends taking a road trip down a seemingly peaceful river. This game is designed with retro-inspired graphics in mind, especially games from the SNES and arcade machines.

Play with a friend and share one controller. Each of the analog sticks of a controller controls a character on screen. The left analog stick controls the left player (purple character) and the right analog stick controls the right player (yellow character). Players can use keyboard as well (WASD / Arrow keys).

This game is developed by Random Name Generator. I am the gameplay programmer for the team.

Developer Thoughts

"It's about the journey, not the destination."

A friend, who is also the sound designer for this project, was asking for members to join a 24-hour game jam that was happening in early November. I've never joined a game jam before and wanted to experience what is it like to design and develop a game in 24 hours. We managed to get four members and joined in initially for experience.

The theme given to us was "travel" and immediately, I wanted to make a game with a philosophy of "it's about the journey, not the destination". After some ideation, Raft was born, with the emphasis of playing with a friend and sticking together.
